Hydrogen Fuel Cell

Image
What is a Hydrogen Fuel Cell? A hydrogen fuel cell is an electrochemical device that uses hydrogen and oxygen to produce electricity, with water and heat as the only byproducts. Unlike internal combustion engines, which burn fuel, fuel cells generate power through chemical reactions, making them highly efficient and clean. While adoption is still in its early stages, especially in markets like India, the technology has potential. Benefits of Hydrogen Fuel Cells Hydrogen fuel cells offer several advantages over traditional energy sources and even some renewable technologies: Zero Emissions:  Only water and heat are emitted. High Efficiency:  Converts up to 60% of fuel energy directly into electricity. Silent Operation:  No moving parts make it noise-free. Scalability:  Can be used in vehicles, industries, or residential power systems. Rapid Refueling:  Hydrogen vehicles can be refueled in minutes, unlike EVs. Types of Hydrogen Fuel Cells There are several ...

Biofuels

Image
Automotive engines aren’t just undergoing a radical shift from electric vehicles, biofuels represent another challenge entirely and require different types of fuel monitoring.  Biofuels and e-fuels are becoming viable options in the pursuit of decarbonisation. Alternative fuels emit less carbon throughout their lifecycle than fossil fuels. Crucially, it is possible to integrate biofuels into existing combustion engines in road, aviation, and maritime transport, provide immediate decarbonisation, and blend them with conventional fuels. Therefore, cleaner fuel types offer a vital means to decarbonise transportation in the short term while longer-term solutions are developed.  However, alternative fuels have rigorous testing requirements that must be carefully followed to identify the presence of any contaminants and ensure operational efficiency for engines.  How hydrocarbon compatibility can create cleaner fuels Biofuels that are most prevalent within the current ma...

What is car suspension system?

Image
Car suspension is the system that lifts the car on wheels and allows the relative movement between the car and the wheel.   Car suspension system   is combination of dampers, springs, tires and mechanical linkages to connect the car with its wheels. The comfort and safety of the passengers within the car is dependent on the suspension system. So, suspension system isolates the vehicle from the road disturbances.  car suspension system Car suspension works by damping and reducing the effect of the road disturbance.  They support the car on the wheels and maintain the tire contact with the road. The spring absorbs the disturbing energy and damper controls the recoil. Suspension system functions Prevent vehicle stability from rolling or pitching during motion. Prevent the road shocks affecting to the vehicle body. Provide ease of driving and controlling the vehicle. Reduce unwanted vibration. Suspension systems have  three types  depending upon the leve...

Electric Trains

Image
How does an electric train work? It might be surprising to know that in electric trains, the power collected from the overhead lines ends up in the grounding cable of the track after flowing through the wheels. Three phase power conversion, regenerative braking and zig-zag overheadlines - all these make electric train technology quite unique. Let’s understand all the engineering behind the electric trains. Let me start from the simplest possible design. Design 1: A basic of electric train The simplest version of an electric train is shown in fig 1a. Here, a single sliding wire collects electric power from the overhead lines. This power is fed to a single-phase induction motor. The induction motor's rotor is connected with the wheels. To complete circuit, the induction motor's other terminal is grounded. This grounding connection is possible because the wire is first connected to the wheels through an axle brush. The wheel is always in contact with the track, and the track is ...

What is an EV Powertrain?

Image
An electric vehicle (EV) describes a vehicle that relies on electric power for motion. This power is typically delivered by either a battery (BEV) or a fuel cell (FCEV). An EV powertrain refers to the system in an electric vehicle that converts electrical energy into mechanical motion. An EV powertrain consists of: An energy storage system — a battery or fuel cell Power electronics — inverter/converter with associated controls An electric machine — energy conversion system ( electric motor ) A mechanical system — a transmission system Of note, an EV drivetrain also includes the driveshaft and its mechanical parts. In addition, EV powertrains do not produce emissions during operation, helping to provide a greener method of transportation.   Global Automobile Award   Visit Our Website  :  automobileaward.com   Nominate Now : https://automobileaward. com/award-nomination/? ecategory=Awards&rcategory= Awardee   Contact us  :  cont...

Components of the Cooling System

Image
Radiator:  The radiator is perhaps the most recognizable component of the cooling system. It’s essentially a heat exchanger that helps dissipate heat from the engine coolant. As hot coolant flows through the radiator, air passing through its fins helps cool it down before it returns to the engine. Water Pump:  The water pump is responsible for circulating coolant throughout the engine and the radiator. It ensures that coolant flows continuously, effectively carrying heat away from the engine to be dissipated by the radiator. Thermostat:  The thermostat acts as a temperature-sensitive valve that regulates the flow of coolant through the engine. It remains closed when the engine is cold to allow it to warm up quickly and then opens once it reaches operating temperature to maintain optimal cooling. Hoses and Pipes:  A network of hoses and pipes connects the various components of the cooling system, allowing coolant to flow freely. These hoses and pipes must be in good c...

How an accelerator works

Image
An accelerator controls how fast or slow your vehicle moves down the road. When you press the accelerator pedal towards the floor, it opens the throttle valve, which allows fuel to flow into the engine. This causes the vehicle to move faster.  Mechanically speaking, the accelerator is the controller of the fuel flow rate into the combustion chamber. The more you press down on the accelerator pedal, the more fuel is added to the combustion chamber, the more fuel is burned to power your car and move it into action.  While this process has experienced little change over the years, newer cars have built in   safety sensors   to help protect you as you drive. The accelerator pedal is wired with three sensors. If all sensors agree with one another, the car speeds and moves according to your actions. If any one sensor is off, it triggers a warning. If all sensors disagree, it places the engine in idle.   Global Automobile Award   Visit Our Website...

Types Of Automatic Transmissions

Image
Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) is not too different from the regular manual transmission and has almost the same construction in terms of gears and clutch. However, it additionally uses an actuator and an ECU (electronic control unit) to determine which gear to shift at a specific engine speed. With AMTs, there is a selector stick that you will have to use to select the drive mode.  The Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) is a special automatic transmission system which uses a pulley system in which two conical pulleys are connected by a belt which drives over them. As these pulleys drive, an ECU varies their diameters, depending on the requirement, and thus modulates the rotation and delivers infinite gear ratios. CVT is very efficient as it aims to maintain constant engine revolutions per minute (RPM) while the vehicle moves at varying speeds. You will find a CVT transmission inside cars like the Nissan Magnite, Honda Elevate, Kia Seltos, and MG Hector. Global Automobil...
