Automatic music genre recognition for in-car infotainment
What we used to call convergence is now the "Internet of Things," and our vehicles are definitely an example of those "things." As Moore’s law continues to double the number of transistors on a chip every 18 months, so the number of these chips in new vehicles continues to grow at a similarly exponential pace. Infotainment systems are increasingly permanently connected to the Internet, and car makers are using consumer-facing technology as a way to differentiate their products in the marketplace. Ars Editor-in-Chief Ken Fisher has gone so far as to suggest that the automobile could be the first great wearable computer. After all, we spend a lot of time in our cars, and in the US or Europe, your car might be the second most-used computing device you own before too long.
